The best news ever!

I know what you are thinking, “How can Brad be claiming to have the best news ever? My life’s pretty great, what about my news?” Unfortunately for you, my news is just slightly better than yours. To learn about the news, keep reading.

Last Friday was February 29. For those of you not keeping track, that day was leap day. It only comes around once every four years. Quite a special day I might say. But after this year’s leap day, that day is slightly improved over the other 365 days. So that day, Bethany picked me up from work because we were going to have a special date night. She wasn’t sure where we were going. All that she knew was that I had told her to dress warm and bring a hat and mittens. So I got picked up around 5:15 and we started heading south of downtown. After about twenty minutes of driving, we were headed down France Ave in Edina on our way to Centennial Lakes to go ice skating.

After a little searching, we made it to the warming house on the lake. We rented our skates and went to put them on. We both ended up needing to get our skates a size smaller, silly ice skates. We got them on and headed outside. I don’t want you to get confused, we are not very good ice skaters. I’ve been skating only a handful of times in my life. I don’t care what you say, ice skating is not just like roller blading. Not even close. So we made it down the steps and started out slowly. After a while, we got more comfortable and picked up a little speed. Since is was a little bit warmer last week, we didn’t go the entire length of the ice because we weren’t entirely sure of the ice’s thickness at one end. So we just went back and forth along three quarters of the ice.

After about an hour of this activity, we decided it was getting pretty cold and that we should go soon. We decided to go down a couple more times and then head in. When we made it to the other end of the lake, I told her that I had written a poem for her. So we stopped by the light and I pulled out my poem. Just then, a group of kids started skating our way. So, we waited a couple minutes until they left and I started to read my poem. I got past the first pages and moved on to the back side. Then, out of no where, I started to get down on one knee in anticipation for the last line. Then, I looked up at her and said the last line of my poem. I then pulled a small box out of my pocket and opened it. What happened, you may ask. Well, all I can say is that she said yes and we are getting married!!

Yep, Bethany and I are now engaged! We’re planning on getting married this fall. We have a preliminary date, but since it’s not final, I probably shouldn’t say what it is. But I will keep you all up to date on it when it is decided. So now we are starting to do a lot of planning and are getting really excited. Every day is more exciting than the last as we get closer and closer to the day. The only other thing I can say is, YIPPY!!!!
